I offer different models of therapy but mainly think about emotional wellbeing from a psychoanalytic perspective. This is a way of understanding how we think, feel and act that considers the influence of relationships, past and present. It also promotes greater self-awareness so that we might notice and feel more in control of the unhelpful ways we can find ourselves acting and feeling, often without even thinking. Often these were helpful ways of coping at one time in our lives but may not be so helpful anymore and feel as if they’re holding us back.
- Pre and post natal consultations:
- Understanding “attachment behaviour”
- Understanding one’s own emotional responses
- Considering the mother-baby relationship
- Early intervention with parents and children aged 0-3
- Parents can increase their understanding of the factors which can promote healthy emotional development in their babies, infants and pre-school aged children.
- Parents can think about their child’s difficulties: sleeping, feeding, tantrums and behavioral problems.
- Preventive intervention aimed at increasing parental sensitivity.
- Work with children
- Who have emotional difficulties and behave in ways that are difficult to understand or hard to manage, for them, their family and their school.
- Sometimes families and schools are worried about children being unusually withdrawn and unreachable.
- Sometimes they are worried about children who are extremely disruptive and need to understand the underlying meaning of pupil behaviour.
