Carolyn Rathjen is an American, Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and mother of two bicultural daughters in elementary school. She has been providing mental health and wellness services for individuals, families and students in Rome for more than 10 years. Before moving to Italy in 2009, she worked in both schools and outpatient mental health clinics in the Boston area.
Carolyn is an integrative psychotherapist using a combination of approaches including social learning theory, psychosocial development theory, psychodynamic theory and the interpersonal neurobiology model as well as cognitive behavioral therapies.
Carolyn’s clinical interests include anxiety and depression management, parenting and family issues, immigration and acculturation, study abroad experience, identity development, trauma and recovery, grief and loss, and managing chronic illness. Carolyn has led stress reduction and mindfulness workshops for students and parents in Rome as well as other various psycho-educational and support groups throughout her career.
